Rationale:
Students will complete a Senior Experience as a requirement for graduation as a way to exhibit the knowledge and maturity acquired while attending Deuel School District. The Senior Experience will accommodate each student's unique abilities and future plans through a guided learning process which takes place outside of the traditional classroom environment. The project must be a learning stretch, meaning the topic is not something the student has not already experienced, but should be an area of interest or possible career path. Some students may find their true career path and others may find the contrary.
Students will have two mentors to guide him or her through the Senior Experience: a faculty mentor to help the student stay on track, and a community mentor in which will be a subject specialist for guidance. Students must meet and document at least 10 mentor contacts total. The Senior Experience required for graduation per the Deuel School Board in accordance with South Dakota's 2025 Initiative on a pass/ fail grade.
